The Bible and Science – Blood

The blood is the life. Deuteronomy 12:23(NIV)

Wounds (physical/spiritual) are a part of living. Cuts, bruises, or hurt feelings will happen and healing will take place if you let. The Wikipedia article Wound Healing gives four predictable stages in the process of healing a wound: blood clotting, inflammation, the growth of new tissue, and the remodeling of tissue (maturation).

Our blood is amazing, it carries oxygen and nutrients to all parts of the body, removes waste products, and defends against infections, and can self-seal its pipeline. This clotting ability is from platelets and proteins, so it is both a physical and chemical action. Blood knows when to start clotting and stop, and then can remove the “plug” as healing occurs.

The Bible says, “Life is in the blood.” It was the part of the sacrifice that was carried into Bloodbagsthe Holy of Holies. It was the loss of Jesus’ blood that brought redemption and healing to mankind.

As a body part blood weights about ten pounds or approximately 7% of your body. It is internal and only can do its job because of the heart. No other parts of the body can do its job without the unending work of the blood.

∞ Jesus, thank you for the hands, feet, eyes, and mouth of your Body but please help me to the blood in the Body of Christ.

The Bible and Science – Wounds

(Note to the reader – This may be my first true “think out loud” post. But given the topic, I don’t think it is a problem.)

I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord. Jeremiah 30:17a (NIV)

The different names and types of wounds.

There are many words that our Biblical translators call “wounds” so use a concordance if you are going into a deeper study of a verse. Here are other phrases/words that are associated with wound: stabs, racked with hungry, bruises, welts, dead, slain, casualties, plague, affliction, calamity, blows, slaughter, pain, sorrow, grief.

Causes of wounds.

  • Accidents
  • Disease
  • Enemies
  • Friends
  • Self-inflected – careless or intentionally
  • God allowed

Functions of wounds in the Bible.

  • To hurt
  • To get your attention
  • To heal you
  • To heal someone else

Medical plans for wound care.

  • Primary intention (intention is a planned thing and in medicine, it is the healing process) – This is when a wound is closed by “sewing” it together
  • Secondary intention – The wound is allowed to stay open so infection can drain.
  • Tertiary intention (tertiary is the third plan) – The wound is cleaned and purposely left opened for a time before closing it.

Facts about “natural” healing.

  • Your body has a complicated process for healing that is marked by certain stages. This process can be interrupted by outside causes or other personal issues such as disease in your body.
  • Depth and size of the wound can control the healing process.
  • Wound care can influence the healing process. Cleaning and ointments can speed the process, or at least keep it on course.
  • Wounds can cause visible scars at the point of injury.

∞ Jesus, thank you for the promise in Jeremiah 30: 17. Heal my wounds so that I can be a benefit to the body of Christ. Amen.

The Bible and Science – Newton’s First Law

I guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. Proverbs 4:11(NIV)

Newton’s First of Motion states that an object in motion wants to stay in motion unless Newtonacted on by an outside force. This is known as inertia and the same concept also covers an object at rest. The ubiquitous forces of friction and gravity are always acting on objects here on earth and they do influence motion.

Sitting in a car and you go around a corner, most people have experienced this, and you move slightly away from the direction you are turning. What has happened is your body is trying to go straight while the seatbelt moves you with the car into the turn. A great example of Newton’s First Law; your body followed its initial motion before you started to turn.

What does this have to do Jesus and the Holy Spirit? When you have given control of your life to Jesus and you are moving straight ahead with Him, He will try to keep you in that path. If you start to curve out of that path the Holy Spirit will pull you back in the direction you were going. You can leave the path but you are going to have to work at it.

∞Jesus, thank you for directing our path and leading us in the way we should go. Amen.

751 this number probably does not mean a thing to anyone but me. If it was 7:51 a.m. and I had just signed into work it might signify a very bad morning.   If I added the three digits together it would total Thirteen but I still think it is Bad Luck To Be Superstitious. No, it is a reminder for me that God is in charge! Yes, I will explain.

November of 2013 the total views on my blog for that month were 751. I was ecstatic as that was the largest total to date and I could not have been happier. Fast forward to November of 2014 and the total views on my blog were 751 and I was devastated. You see the months in between had seen an increase in the number of views and October of 2014 had been my highest month ever with over 1500 views. The number of views cut in half for no apparent reason, I was starting to have big plans, I had my hopes up, and I was projecting an increase. The 1500 views had given me a vision for what could happen and to be honest I was full of my self. Then came 751 and a reality check when I looked at those two totals sitting on top of each other on the “Summary Page.” It took me several days to recover from the shock and the attacking questions of, “What have I done wrong; What am I doing wrong.” The exact same number of views, what were the odds of that happening?  The pettiness of my reaction to the whole situation and my contrasting emotions!  That is when I realized that I had gotten things out of alignment and God had given me a wakeup call. Had I started to take my eyes off of Jesus, yes!  Does He want my/your full attention, yes! Jeremiah 29:11, God has a plan for us and we need to be open for His plan and keep Him as the middle of what we are doing.  He is faithful; if you are too far in front of Him He will pull you back and if you are lagging too far behind Him He will clear the way so you can see Him again.

Do you have a 751? If your plans suddenly are not what you expected might I suggest you embrace the reality check and find comfort in the fact that God loves you more than you realize!

Christmas – Verses of Jesus

Christmas – Verses of Jesus

Christmas candle 1John 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (NIV)

Matthew and Luke have genealogies for Jesus; Matthew 1 is for Joseph and Luke 3: 23 – 38 is for Mary. John 1 is also a type of genealogy as well as a mission statement but it is a verse that could precede even Genesis 1:1.

Genesis 3: 15 speaks of the Seed (singular) of the woman and how there would be enmity between the Seed and the snake. The snake gets a crushed head and the Seed gets a strike at His heel.

Revelations 12:1 A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth. Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on its heads. Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born. She gave birth to a son, a male child, who “will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.” And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. (NIV) (The bold words in the verses are my emphasis.)

Christmas is a time of joy for mankind as we celebrate Jesus. The turmoil that some people experience at this festive season has its roots at the beginning of our age but the answer is still the promise that was given to Eve – JESUS.
