Ephesians 1: 18

This is what the Father and Son wants us to get from the Spirit in 1: 17. I read this and thought of what Adam and Eve gave up in the Garden for some grapes or figs or whatever fruit you think it is.

Verse 18 – The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, (KJV)

  • Being enlightened, pephotismenous G5461. To give light is a good thought for this word.
  • Eyes, ophthalmous G3788.
  • Heart, cardias G2588. In the Greek text, understand is the word – cardia or heart. (Why we study.)
  • To know, eidenai G1492. (Interlinear) These two references are saying different words.
  • Comprehend, Oida G1492. (Mounce) ᾔδειν is actually a pluperfect form functioning as an aorist. This is an action that is completed and has no time reference. Yes, this is above my pay grade.
  • Hope, elpis G1680. Luke (Acts) and Paul use this word many times. See Paul Wrote on Hope.
  • Calling, kleseos G2821.
  • Riches, ploutous G4149.
  • Glory, doxes G1391.
  • Inheritance, kleronomias G2817.
  • Saints, hagiois G40.
